What is Emotional Intelligence?

Emotional intelligence, often abbreviated as EQ, is the ability to recognize, understand, manage, and effectively use one’s own emotions as well as navigate and respond to the emotions of others.

It encompasses skills such as self-awareness, self-regulation, empathy, and effective interpersonal communication.

Individuals with high emotional intelligence can build strong relationships, handle stress, and navigate social situations with tact and empathy.

Tips to Improve Your Emotional Intelligence

I get it; developing a high EQ isn’t a walk in the park. I’ve been there, done that, and learned a thing or two.

Below are some points to remember while working on increasing your EQ:

  • Some behaviors block you from developing your EQ. You must understand these behaviors and change them.
  • To change your behaviors you must feel and reflect. Connect with how you feel about your behavior and embrace remorse.
  • Unprocessed feelings lead to ineffective communication and stir conflicts in relationships. So, process your feelings to build meaningful relationships.
  • People who are successful in their personal and professional lives are pros in identifying and processing their feelings.
  • When you learn to understand, manage, and respect your emotions, you’ll be able to lead others successfully.
